The Untrue Chronicles of the Annabel Chongs
The Annabel Chongs formed circa 1982 in Minneapolis. Along with Prince, The Replacements, Husker Du and The Jets, they helped define the "Minneapolis Sound"; The sound that ruled the underground and main-stream radio throughout the 80's. Though originally known for a raunchy stage show, it was the group's consistent contributions to film soundtracks which led them to fame. "The Chongs" provided various tunes for films such as: Top Gun, A Room with a View, Flight of the Navigator (who could forget that one?) and countless others. Who could deny their brief, but memorable, heart-felt cameo in Steven Speilberg's epic, The Color Purple?
After a squabble during the MTV Music Video Awards over a small cup of coffee, the group disbanded and went their separate ways. "The Drummer" laid low for a few years in bed, drinking tea as Sheryl Crow's personal drummer. Chris composed the scores for numerous Disney films; Working quite closely with the ultimate Phil Collins. You know him best as the voice of Salem (the cat) on Sabrina: The Animated Series. Orry and Manda are boring and moved to Ohio where they lived off the land.
