HIGH SPEED CHASE
High Speed Chase: the rock, the punk, the hardcore, and the smarts. While so many current rock bands insist on enlisting DJs and computers, High Speed Chase are arrogant enough to think that concrete songwriting and explosive playing are the elements that really count. With the guitar as their driving force and an ear for cerebral nuances, the band attracts the "enlightened" rock fan. High Speed Chase is three parts Led Zeppelin, two parts Ramones, and one part Bad Brains, with a twist of Jawbox. Indeed -- a potent and intoxicating concoction.
With their upcoming release scheduled for winter of 2004, High Speed Chase adds a few more pounds to their meaty sound with a line-up that is finally grounded and focused. A veteran of the New York City and New Jersey scenes, producer/engineer Chris Gibson formed High Speed Chase as a studio project in 1995 morphing into a full-on live act in 1999. After a few line-up changes, the band is now a solid unit with Gibson on voice and guitar, Lava on bass, Rad on lead guitar, and Jim King (ex-DemonSpeed) pounding the skins.
High Speed Chase has chalked up a number of notable performance experiences over the years, playing with artists from Green Day to The Fixx. Regulars at New York's legendary CBGB, very shortly after the tragic events of 9/11, the band organized and performed at the "You Can't Keep Us Down" Rally, a fundraising event to the benefit of various World Trade Center Relief organizations that featured over 15 bands from the tri-state area. Front man Gibson has also helped organize a number of benefit concerts for the early East Coast campaign for the Rock the Vote organization, working with such notable musicians as Joey Ramone, ex-Talking Heads keyboardist Jerry Harrison, and Handsome Dick Manitoba of the Dictators.
High Speed Chase were also a featured artist on a recent Mp3.com compilation titled "Ranger Edge Trax," sponsored by Ford Trucks, with 10,000 copies being distributed worldwide. Along with enjoying over 35,000 downloads and plays at their Mp3.com site, High Speed Chase's previous releases have received an enthusiastic response from radio and press, including airplay from former MTV VJ, Matt Pinfield on the 92.3FM K-Rock show, "The Buzz."
